Phishing for a Manhattan Apartment

I’m in Midtown Manhattan helping my friend Sharron find some new digs. She’s enrolling in the School of Visual Arts, which means she needs to move from Denver to NYC.

To help Sharron find a pad, I contacted 1,497 rental agents in Midtown, the Lower East Side, and Brooklyn. That’s an exact number. Or rather a fake exact number. Last Sunday I returned from a Literary Writers Conference in Manhattan, where I read from my work and received critiques from literary agents, gong show style (“I’m bored — stop reading now!”). I also learned about how to get published (“you have better odds at winning the lottery — throw in the towel!”). It was a tough love boot camp, no question. And it rocked. Seriously.
